Our Story
The world has changed in these past two years. Gone, at least for a season, are the days of traveling freely to enjoy the union of God’s people around the world. Gone are the days of sitting across the table from new friends and old. Gone are the hugs and visible smiles of love and acceptance.
But the days of our usefulness are far from gone.
Missing the connections I have had in years past with the family of Christ around the world, I began to ask the Lord how I might fulfill that longing and purpose in this new world dynamic. Many thoughts, ideas, impediments, and realizations have surfaced over the past months. First, I dove into what my purposes in the Kingdom might really boil down to: what was I made to do. The answers were concise and simple: I have been equipped for discipleship and union. I have a heart to see the Body of Christ gathered and to see each member there striving to grow in godliness.
The next step was how I might fulfill those purposes amid the isolation covid has imposed on us. Normally averse to most all technology, I had to confess that there is a benefit we have all learned to enjoy in the way of technology. We’ve learned to connect, get work done, collaborate, and even sit down together over the medium of the internet. It’s a tool most of us have learned to wield well.
And then the connection clicked. I’d like to use what’s available to do what I was made to do. I don’t want to sit on hold and wait to see what will happen and when I might be able to get back to a life of usefulness and purpose. I’d like to fulfill that task today…and every other! I don’t want to wait for yesterday to return, I want to strive toward the tomorrow that awaits.
And so The Church Together was conceived.
It began with a rather simple desire. I’d like to see the Church all over the world come together over the spiritual disciplines. I homed in on one in particular, fasting. I feel in many areas of protestant life this is a dying discipline. But it is so powerful and so useful a tool in the life of believers. The plan was to ask the world’s Christians to come and fast with me, to talk about it, learn to use this weapon of our warfare, grow in this together. This beginning bloomed into what you see before you. God planted a seed in my own desires to please Him that I see Him spreading to others around me and that I trust He will continue to use as He sees fit. We all have a place in this Body, we all have a unique gifting and purpose and God is faithful to lead us to places of usefulness in keeping with those gifts.
I long to see the Body of Christ enjoying being family. I long to see believers from all over the world gathering in a million different ways, over a million different media, coming together to spur one another on toward greater godliness. I long to see God glorified in His Church as we were design to do.
I want desperately for the lost world to see the greatness of living in this family and want in themselves.
Here in The Church Together, we hope to offer a platform where that might be more possible, where we might be able to engage and enjoy the fellowship we were made for. And where we might lean in on one another to become a better reflection of our Savior tomorrow than we have been today.
I have been so hesitant to share my part of this story because The Church Together isn’t mine. It isn’t something that has been or could be done by any one person or group. It is Together. And that means that while what you’ve read here is the beginnings of something, what you contribute here will be it’s continuation.
We extend the invitation: all God’s people, let’s gather together and grow here!
